· The Chief Probation Officer is appointed by the Chief Judge of the Northern Judicial Circuit.
· Probation officers are sworn, POST certified, peace officers with the authority to arrest.
· Operates at little to no cost for local citizens (operating funds come from probation fees).
· Audited yearly by the state’s Misdemeanor Probation Oversight Unit (MPOU).
· Franklin County is the administrating county for the department’s payroll and employee benefits.
· The department’s jurisdiction covers 1,625 square miles.
· Staff consists of 10 officers and one administrative assistant.
· Supervises approximately 1,600 defendants at any given time.
· Current operating budget is $808,285.00.
· Annually:
- Collects $2,100,000.00+ in restitution, fines and fees.
- Collects $150,000.00+ for Georgia’s Crime Victim Fund.
- Recovers and pays $25,000.00+ of restitution to victims.
- Gathers school supplies and clothes for local schools.
